1984? You Wish!

U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and FBI Director Robert Mueller on Friday urged telecommunications officials to record their customers’ Internet activities, CNET News.com has learned.
Well, George Bush and his baddies are at it again, expressing a great desire to completely destroy any privacy you thought you had left.
In a private meeting with industry representatives, Gonzales, Mueller and other senior members of the Justice Department said Internet service providers should retain subscriber information and network data for two years, according to two sources familiar with the discussion who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The closed-door meeting at the Justice Department, which Gonzales had requested, according to the sources, comes as the idea of legally mandated data retention has become popular on Capitol Hill and inside the Bush administration. Supporters of the idea say it will help prosecutions of child pornography because in many cases, logs are deleted during the routine course of business.

And you people voted republican why?
Big Gay Brother
Since people communicate more freely and openly online, this frightening plan would give the government better understanding of what people do and want. And for the party in power, it basically let’s them see who their friends and enemies are. This article even speaks of e-mail messages and instant messaging being retained. If this weren’t for real it would be laughable.
People have come to expect their civil liberties and basic American rights being violated on an almost constant basis with this administration, but the idea of “watching” what people do for two years is simply insane. I’m really disgusted to be an American right now.
Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah
I can’t help to wonder what happened to the “less government, smaller government” mantra republicans used to chant? I guess since 1994 they’ve had a change of heart, and since 2000, they’ve continuously tried to bring big government into your living-room.
False Arguments
And again, they are using child pornography as the basis for their proposed plan. So in order to catch a small percentage of on-line users who are scum, they will kill all of our rights in the process? This is basically how all bad laws work– they take rights away from honest, law-abiding citizens. The criminals are still criminals. They didn’t’ follow previous laws on the books and they’re not going to follow new laws. It’s all a farce.
Free Will At Cost
If you know the government has access to all your communication, including what you write, see, and read, will you be less inclined to voice your opinion in opposition of the government? Of course you will! Look what Bush and this Attorney General are doing with journalists. It’s getting to the point where they can’t print anything that goes against the administration’s line, or else they may face jail time if they don’t “give up” their sources, so the government can, in turn, go after the filthy “leaker.”
When the media is too scared to print the truth, what do you get? CHINA. If I want to get screwed by my government and have all my thoughts censored, I’ll hop on a plane Beijing. Until then, I want my freedom that our supposed forefathers gave us.
I don’t need no tank on my back and I don’t need George Bush up my ass! And Georgy Boy, if you are reading this, file this one under “George Bush/Asshole President.”
