500 Ways To Sound Incredibly Stupid

More Fun Than Bush

So I’m watching Fox News Channel tonight, and I see the well used “breaking news” logo. Five-hundred WMDs found in Iraq. Ok, sounds intriguing. I’d like to learn more.

I turn on Hannity & Colmes and I see Hannity creaming in his pants. Wow, I think to myself, this must be good news for the republicans. Then I see Sen. Rick Santorum (R) with some other guy, extolling the significance of this “great” WMD find, holding some sort of document. Then I think to myself, why is this jerk running around with classified info, and why isn’t the president telling me this? I start to get mistrustful of the old Fair & Balanced network.

My suspicions came to fruition. This is pure bullshit.

Digging For The Truth

I went to Fox News’ web site, as I heard Jim Angle had actually spoken to someone within the administration, and got the official administration line.

Asked why the Bush administration, if it had known about the information since April or earlier, didn’t advertise it, Hoekstra (republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee) conjectured that the president has been forward-looking and concentrating on the development of a secure government in Iraq.

Offering the official administration response to FOX News, a senior Defense Department official pointed out that the chemical weapons were not in useable conditions.

“This does not reflect a capacity that was built up after 1991,” the official said, adding the munitions “are not the WMDs this country and the rest of the world believed Iraq had, and not the WMDs for which this country went to war.”

A Breath Of Fresh Truth

So let’s see. These were pre-1991 weapons, most likely produced and buried during the 1980s. They were degraded to the point they were no longer useful. We found 500 of them since invading Iraq. And Shawn Hannity wants me to apologize to president Bush because he was right all of the time, saying Iraq had WMDs. Is he smoking crack?

Everyone knows Saddam had weapons. The United States provided Iraq with biological and chemical weapons technology back in the 1980s, when we loved Saddam because he hated Iran. We knew this guy buries weapons like a dog buries bones. Was there ever doubt we would inevitably find old weapons buried? Of course not. I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually find thousands more weapons, degraded to be sure, buried in the vast wasteland of Iraq.

So after finding out the truth, and reading the declassified document, which can be found at the Fox News Channel’s web site, I finally got the whole story– which is there is NO story. This is old news. Nothing new to see here. Keep moving folks.

Right-Wing Nutjob

And yet, Sean Hannity said tonight that “they found 500 weapons today.” Today? You mean about 3 years worth of today’s. We found 500, pre-1991, old and degraded weapons in almost three years. That’s not today. Sean, you are pathetic. I almost feel embarrassed for you.

I should apologize to Bush because he has been vindicated? Apologize because we finally found the WMD? If this is the WMD Bush meant when he took us to war, shedding the blood of over 2,600 young men and woman, then Bush is more of a fool than I and the world first thought. Vindication in this sense will bring condemnation. What fool brings a country to it’s knees for 500 degraded canisters of gas?

As I go to bed tonight, two things will not have been proven out– An active WMD program in Iraq and the sanity of Sean Hannity.
