Making The Jump… It’s Logical!

Logical!

After many years of Tascam hardware-based recording, I’m moving to a software solution– well, with a little hardware too! This is going to be a really big change that is going to take weeks, even months to get through.

After buying a 24″ iMac this week, I decided that I would enjoy recording/mixing/mastering much more on a Mac:) And since Apple offers a great audio production tool, Logic Pro, my choice was made that much easier.

One Giant Leap

But, this is going to be a giant step for me, in terms of getting used to the new software *and* getting used to all the new hardware I will be using. I have been used to all-in-one solutions, like the Tascam 2488. It’s a nice unit, gives you plenty to work with, but you are restrained in growth.

Now, I’m gonna have to forget everything I’ve learned about the 2400 and start fresh… really fresh. Logic is so massive, there is so much it can do. I already have some tutorials and videos I plan to buy. This isn’t your daddy’s Sound Recorder from Windows…

Paying The Piper

Another choice was cost. It is going to be so expensive switching over up front! I’m topping out at almost $6,000.00 for hardware and software. Luckily I am selling a bunch of stuff, and a couple computers, so I shouldn’t have to spend too much of that out of my empty pockets.

I’m really excited about the switch, but I know I won’t actually be recording music for a while! But, I’m confident my music will sound much better than anything I can do with my Tascam.

Here is a list of some of the hardware I purchased just for the switch, and I’m sure there will be more…

MacBook
OctoPre
Saffire Pro

Grace 101
FMR Preamp
