iForm Over iFunction

July 4th, 2010 Bryan Los 1 comment

With many people having problems with their iPhone 4, I decided to call Apple and try to get some support issues answered. Luckily, they have an iPhone Support Hotline. I was able to get through quite easily. I recorded my phone call so I could share it with other iPhone 4 users who may be experiencing problems similar to myself. You can listen to the entire phone call below.

What Are People Saying?

That was HYSTERICAL!!!!!!!! Honestly, better than most Saturday Night Live skits by far. Just great! As they say, the best comedy is centered in the truth. This is a MUST listen to anyone having issues. You’ll still have issues, but it WILL make you feel better. If you don’t agree, press 5.– Apple Discussion Forum User

iPhone 4 Is Here… Almost

June 16th, 2010 Bryan Los 1 comment

Apple’s latest invention is here, and it looks really good! The best part, I won’t have to spend much, if anything, out of pocket. I have a new 3GS I bought in April, and it’s in MINT condition. Also, unlocked phones sell for big prices on eBay, as people can used them with carriers other than AT&T. Presently, you cannot buy an iPhone retail without a contract with AT&T.

I didn’t get the upgrade price of $199, but I didn’t get the top price of $599 either. My price fell square in the middle. Not much to say about the phone now, other than it’s awesome. You can visit the official page for more information.

A Few Bad Apples

February 18th, 2009 Bryan Los 1 comment

Apple has arbitrarily decided that the South Park app was too offensive for iTunes App Store inclusion. Apple is the sole governing body which oversees the process of which applications are accepted or rejected. Obviously, this is bull@$%*.

Is it just me, or does it seem like 1984 is a bit closer than what Apple led us to believe? I have to go back and check my Chinese calendar, but I think 1984 was the “Year of the Tyrannical Apple,” if I’m not mistaken.

I love all things Apple. I’ve purchased no fewer than seven Macs since 2005, a few iPods and an iPhone. I really like Apple. But the control freaks may end up running this company into the ground. I can understand that Steve Jobs likes to dictate how the public interacts with his products. I’m sure he is very proud of the Mac and wants us to get exactly out of the hardware/software what he thinks we need to get out of it. But at some point Apple must let our hands go, and come to terms with the fact that we are all grown up, and know what we want and what we don’t want.

Apple, Learn How To NetShare!

August 3rd, 2008 Bryan Los No comments

Over the last 48 hours, Apple has removed, then put back up, then removed the iPhone application NetShare. NetShare, developed by Nullriver Software, is a tethering application, which basically lets you use your iPhone as a modem, and gives your PC internet access when none is available. Since the iPhone internet access via it’s Edge and 3G networks, one can always have an internet connection for their computer, even when no wi-fi access is in range. Of course, this isdependenton your wireless connection.

iPhone Apps: Remote Control

July 13th, 2008 Bryan Los No comments

With the release of iPhone 2.0 firmware, applications can now be run on the iPhone (legally). One app I love and see room for even more functionality is the remote control app, released by Apple. It allows you to control your Apple TV library and iTunes library. Once your library is added, you can visually see a list of all content, and can choose it just as you would when watching on your iPhone, except when hitting play, it will play on your source (Apple TV / iTunes Player).

I was hoping for a full replacement of the current Apple remote, but there is no option to replace the buttons found on the Apple remote, specifically the menu, play, and directional buttons (volume up/down, rewind/forward). So as it is now, I have to use my “real” remote if I want to move around in the menu system of the Apple TV, such as changing preferences or searching. I was really hoping to be able to search YouTube much easier on my Apple TV. Hopefully the next version will bring all my wants to the app.

No 3G iPhone On My Horizon

July 11th, 2008 Bryan Los No comments

After watching the WWDC keynote, and hearing Steve Jobs boast about about the new iPhone (and its lower cost), I was surely going to buy one. However, after doing some research, I came to a rather different conclusion.

Boy, Is This Great?

First, the real reason I wanted the 3G iPhone was because of all this great GPS “stuff” they were adding. I even went out and sold my Magellen GPS unit (which I loved) to get ready for the iPhone. I figured that Apple would include some fancy turn-by-turn GPS software built-in, since they have been working with Google and Google Maps. What I learned later was that the best they could do was offer some blue dot that follows your general location as you move. This was hardly what I expected, and my plans for upgrading were forever dashed.

AppleCare… Because They Do!

iPhone

My post reprinted from the Apple support forums:

My iPhone started vibrating all by itself yesterday. So I thought it was the switch, and tried playing around with it. It ended up breaking. But, the vibrate switch always was a problem for me, even when new. For some reason, it would move too easily either way, often turning on when I just touched the side of the phone. Anyway, made an appointment today for the iPod Bar and within 30 seconds the genius said, “I’ll go get you another phone.” A few minutes later, he was back out with a new phone. When I got home literally it took me 5 minutes to sync my phone and be right back to where I was before.

I did have a backup, and everything seemed to sync perfectly, all settings, etc. Except the custom rings I had for some people I had to reset them. They were set to default. Not too bad for only the 5 or so custom rings I had for people. Maybe making the backup doesn’t save that info.

I give Apple 5 big stars for the service I received. Didn’t have to pay a penny and was in and out within minutes.

Thanks Apple!

MakeiPhoneRingtone.app

With iTunes 7.5 and the new iPhone software 1.1.2, MakeiPhoneRingtone works again! And the best part, it’s FREE! What this software does is automate the process of adding your songs (no longer than 40.04 seconds) into the iTunes ringtones folder, thus making them available for use on your iPhone when you sync it.

The program will take your AAC file, send it to your iTunes Music sub-folder “Ringtones,” and add it to your ringtone playlist. The only thing you have to do is make the ringtone. I use Sound Studio 3 to cut my songs.

My Music… My Ringtones… My Way!

November 11th, 2007 Bryan Los No comments

UPDATE (11.17.07) – Apple’s new iPhone software 1.1.2 allows you to add your own songs as ring tones. It’s not as “Apple-like” as it should be, but easily accomplished in a few easy steps. First, use an audio editor (I use Sound Studio for Mac). Create your ringtones (less than 40 seconds), fading in/out as you wish. Then save them as AAC (I prefer 256 Kbps). Once saved, rename them to *.mpr. Then open your iTunes music folder, and find the “Ringtones” folder. Drop all your *.mpr files in. Then, from that folder, open each one (make sure the mpr extension is associated with iTunes), and the songs will magically be added to the iTunes ringtone folder. I don’t know if this is a mistake on Apple’s part or this is what they are planning, but it works great and I don’t need iToner now.
