Today is the one-year anniversary of Lady’s death. Lady succumbed to bone cancer on November 29, 2004. She will be missed.

Lady was born a Rottweiler on May 23, 1994, to a very aggressive mother. These aggressive traits were definitely passed down to Lady, but you would only know that if you happened to not be on her A-List. One neighbor, friend, oil man, and a mailman knew Lady all too well.

Lady was the “green” puppy of the litter, meaning she wore a green tag around her neck. Each puppy of the litter had a different color. I can’t recall the exact day we brought her home, but she was really small, and liked to hide under things. She once dug a two-foot hole under a car in the backyard. Why was there a car in the backyard you ask? Well, that’s for another post.

Thankfully, during her lifetime, I took many pictures and dozens of 8mm home movies. Next year, I will be creating a site called mydoglady.com where I will be able to share pictures, movies and memories. I was lucky enough to catch her when she was at her happiest and healthiest. I also captured her at her worse, right before we had to take her to be put to sleep. The clip is a bit over a minute, but you can clearly see the agony she is in.

My only regret is not ending her suffering a week before. You never want to end a life, but looking back, that would have been best for her. Unfortunately, we can’t go back and re-live moments, and I’m sure Lady was at peace those final seconds before her death.

For the last week of Lady’s life, I kept a journal. I would note any problems she may have faced that day, or just what time I took her outside. The web site will have her entire life history, compromised of pictures, movies, and paper records such as vet bills and birth certificate.
