When We Was Younger…

The Kids

My grandmother died this week. Going through decades of memories in a few hours, you stop and think where the time went.

I guess I’m lucky my grandmother didn’t throw anything away– from her high school diploma of 1938, to the pictures of her first born in 1950, to just about anything. She kept it.

In that archive of pictures are myself and my sister, tucked away with just about everyone else who ever sent her anything. Going through everything will be a challenge, but it’s nice to see that the last 60+ years have not been forgotten.

I Read The News Today, Oh Boy

I found a few newspaper clippings from back in the good old days, 1980s. For some strange reason, my sister and I were always in the paper. It seemed like everywhere we went, a newspaper photographer was present. I’ve included a few local newspaper clippings that I’ve found, but there are a few more somewhere.

The first picture was published Thursday, May 21, 1981. It shows my grandfather pushing my sister and I on our bikes. The second picture shows my sister coming down a slide, published Wednesday, May 5, 1982. The third picture shows my sister silhouetted against the park wall, published Tuesday, June 9, 1981.

Trivia: They spelled my name wrong, my sister’s name wrong, and screwed up our address. It’s a pain being famous. Also, that nice bike you see me on, well I took it apart in my basement and never got it back together. Sadly, that bike was never in another picture. The bike was red.
